What are Skills Bootcamps?

 Berkshire Skills Bootcamps are free*, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks,
giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast track to interview with an employer upon completion.

The Skills and Business Hub has a vision and bold ambition to serve Berkshire with better access to skills. We are proud to be managing the programme of Skills Bootcamps delivery in Berkshire, delivering high-impact training that meets real employer needs. These flexible, employer-led programmes are designed to close sector-specific skills gaps—fast.

Our Skills Bootcamps are open to all individuals aged 19 and over from all employment backgrounds and of any experience level, focusing on sectors in which employers are actively looking to recruit.

Eligible individuals looking to upskill may currently be in work, self-employed, unemployed, looking for a change or returning to work after a break. You can see eligibility requirements here. Berkshire Skills Bootcamps aim to give you the skills you need to pursue a new profession, progress to additional education like an apprenticeship, or generate new opportunities if you’re self-employed.

Once you have found a Skills Bootcamp, check the individual delivery providers page to see course requirements and eligibility criteria. Eligible individuals should register directly on the Skills Bootcamps provider’s website.

Start by browsing the available Skills Bootcamps, and once you have found one, you’re interested in, click the link next to it to visit the delivery provider’s website. There, you can then register your interest and begin the application process. The Delivery Provider will carry out eligibility checks and may contact you to discuss your goals and expectations and offer more information on the course structure. If the course is a good fit, you’ll complete their application process and be onboarded.

Can Skills Bootcamps boost my career prospects?

Yes, the primary goal of Skills Bootcamps is to help you gain in-demand skills that lead to employment. Courses are designed in partnership with employers to meet local workforce needs. Many Delivery Providers also offer career support services such as CV writing, interview preparation, and job search guidance. Contact your chosen provider to learn more about the support available.Graduates of Berkshire Skills Bootcamps often secure interviews, promotions, or transition into new industries. The programmes are tailored to local employer needs, meaning you’ll gain practical, job-ready skills that are in high demand.

Are Skills Bootcamps really free?

Yes, they’re fully funded by the Department for Education for eligible, individual learners. There’s no catch—just a commitment to attend and complete the course. Employers looking to upskill their teams contribute to the training cost – 10% for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and 30% for larger organisations. These are called co-funded learners.
