What are reasonable adjustments?

Reasonable Adjustments are changes an employer or service provider makes to remove or reduce substantial disadvantages faced by a disabled or neurodivergent person, ensuring they have the same opportunities as non-disabled people or neurodivergent people, covering modifications to policies, environments, equipment, and working patterns.

Employers are legally obliged to provide reasonable adjustments to anyone who identifies as neurodivergent, you do not need a formal diagnosis to qualify for reasonable adjustments.

But what is considered reasonable?

Its very difficult to define what is meant by “reasonable”

Not all reasonable adjustments are workable. They need to be proportionate, safe and compatible with the organisations core purpose.

As someone who identifies as neurodivergent, you may be protected by the equality act, but there is a lot of debate around how this looks in principle

Exercising your rights is not always straight forward, and figuring out what your needs are can be challenging.

This is why Reading ADHD Group have teamed up with Bethany Johns for a practical workshop introducing reasonable adjustments in the workplace for neurodivergent adults. Bethany will walk us through the process from identifying our needs all the way to making the request and managing pushback.

This is an absolute essential for anyone navigating the workplace through the lens of neurodivergence
