Snaffling Pig proves flexibility is key for SMEs

Snaffling Pig among the first to respond to the UK’s need to increase production of hand sanitiser and PPE during pandemic.

Despite being adversely impacted by the closure of pubs across the UK, pork-based snacks company Snaffling Pig proved there can be opportunity in adversity.

One of the fastest growing food and drink businesses in the region and a Berkshire Growth Hub business, Snaffling Pig in West Berkshire was among the first to respond to the UK’s need to increase production of hand sanitiser and PPE. Quickly pivoting their business strategy, they have been working with five gin distilleries to produce hand sanitiser for leading UK retailers. In addition, the firm has offered its warehousing services to food and drink brands to pick, pack and deliver products direct to consumers. In fact, the service has become so successful, it has spawned a spin-off company called Startup Logistics.

Nick Coleman, Founder & CEO of Snaffling Pig, explains: “There are opportunities if you are in a position and mindset to react, and pivot your business. With the current pandemic, usual rules are out of the window. There are opportunities out there, even if it means you have to do something different for a while.”

“We felt it was our responsibility to safeguard our staff and limit the negative impact of coronavirus on our company, so we adapted our focus. We believe small businesses have greater flexibility to pivot their business than larger corporations.”
